IT ALL STARTED WHEN…
Justin and I were eighteen years old. He lived in Townsend, Montana, working for his dad on the farm and I was in town for the summer working as a ranch hand. I had pulled up to get some fuel at the local gas station when I noticed the boy on the other side of the pump. I leaned over to my friend and said, “I’m going to marry that guy.” And ten years later, that prediction came true.
In 2017 I moved to Montana permanently, and Justin and I got started making a life together and planning to raise cattle. But as we were soon to find out, our ranching journey would actually start with sheep!
Little Creek started when I saw a Facebook post advertising four free Icelandic sheep. A quick Google search confirmed that this relatively rare breed was special and well suited to our lifestyle, so Justin and I hooked up the trailer and picked the sheep up the very next day.
Within weeks all the sheep began lambing, and I was hooked on the breed. Famous for their tenderness and gourmet, mild flavor, Icelandic sheep remain unchanged from the time of the Vikings and thrive on a grass-fed diet.
The meat was so good that we knew we had to share it, and so we quickly grew the flock and founded Little Creek, named after a small creek up in the Montana high country that never runs dry. I, Caroline, also wanted to share the way of life I had come to cherish and to connect customers with their food source. And so we started sharing our story and daily life on social media.
Within a year we had begun our cattle herd, and began offering dry aged, ranch raised beef in addition to our grass-fed lamb! Since then we have expanded our brand and offerings into natural ranch goods like sheep milk soap and lotion, beef and lamb seasonings, hand poured soy candles, and more.
In all aspects of Little Creek, we prioritize transparency and the best in animal husbandry. We understand that "fast is slow and slow is fast," and so we appreciate your patience when we sell out of items quickly, because this is not a process we can rush. Our meat is antibiotic free and raised with soil health, sustainability, and carbon storage top of mind.
We are proud to offer our customers the very best, as well as a radically transparent look into our daily life and practices over on Instagram (@bigskycaroline and @littlecreekmontana). Thank you for joining us on this journey.
